So, at 11pm, I made my decision. I would take Sydney one last time before baby. One last time before our beautiful beach was tainted. But this one last time, I wanted her to make memories, so I packed an extra camera. Yes, I gave my three-year-old a working camera, with the following instructions: "Take pictures of everything you think is beautiful."
As a side note, when my husband figured out I was serious, he gave his mother one hours notice to have her bags packed as my official guardian. :)
So I'll break this up into two posts, what Sydney saw, and what mommy saw. First, what mommy saw - and if you stick with me to the end, I'll share the Adobe Camera Raw settings that gave the etherial coloring in these photos!
Rather than try to explain the gravity of what floats just offshore, I gave my 3-year-old a camera with the following instructions "Take a picture of everything you think is beautiful".

She took her job VERY seriously.

She started by taking pictures she's seen mommy take 100 times.

We moved onto the beach, accompanied by a very stern warning by a very pregnant mommy. "DON'T PUT THE CAMERA IN THE SAND!!!!!!!" She listened.

Well, she listened as well as any three year old surrounded by sand could.

But this was her moment to make memories, so I let her keep the camera.
She took pictures of the birds...

She took pictures of the waves...

The bird tracks in the sand...

And eventually, she stopped taking pictures... and took it in.

Here's to capturing memories... even the sweetest of the bittersweet.

And since you made it this far - look below. I attached the Adobe Camera Raw settings for the colors in these pictures. Enjoy! I call it "Sydney Beach". You may want to turn the sharpening down a bit - I think I went a little overboard, but I simply love the mood created by the aqua toned blacks and the peach toned highlights!
